A great article by stylist.com on brunette makeup!

If you're a brunette, you're in luck when it comes to choosing makeup.

Brunettes have the most flexible hair shade to work with because so many colors complement darker locks. The key is to balance that darkness with light-reflecting, warm makeup. Otherwise, your face can look pale and washed out.

Brunettes can also get away with very little makeup during the day. At night, a smoky eye with black or gray eyeliner can be especially striking.

"A brunette gal has the option to amp up the exotic feel of her dark hair with strong eyes or lips, or soften with neutrals and pale shades," says celebrity stylist Brett Freedman. Plums, navy blues, and pewters work well for these dark-haired mavens. Blush is also a must to reduce the contrast between light skin and dark hair.

When choosing makeup, the key is to match it to your specific shade of brown.

Deep, espresso brunettes: You can pull off this season's hot trend of vibrant red or wine lips. If you have fair skin, look for softer tones in your makeup like light browns, peaches, and neutrals. Darker skin tones should lean toward warmer shades like honey, caramel, or brown. When in doubt, lighter complexions should look for hints of pink and deeper complexions should look for touches of gold shimmer.

Chocolate browns: On medium to dark skin tones, opt for makeup with copper and honey shades for a soft look. Fair-skinned gals should avoid mauve or anything with silver because it looks too artificial -- especially for daytime. Brown eyeliner and eye shadow is especially flattering.

Caramel brunettes or "brondes": Lighter brunettes need to go bolder with makeup. You want to make sure your skin doesn't blend in too much with your hair. Since bronde is a more subtle hair color, your makeup should take center stage. A crisp lash line, smoky liner, or bold lip will create interest. Just choose one feature on your face to play up, though -- bold eyes, cheeks, and lips would be too overwhelming.

If you have fair flesh, try a sunless tanner or bronzer. Brunette locks look gorgeous with sun-kissed skin.

Another tip is to stay natural with your makeup -- especially during the day. "The biggest mistake brunettes make is going too cool-toned with lips and cheek colors," says Freedman. "Opt for colors that look like your natural blush or lip tone, just a bit more vivid."

Hollywood has some gorgeous brunettes who know how to choose the right makeup.Leighton Meester is a great example of a chocolate brunette, Megan Fox pulls off her dark espresso shade flawlessly, and Eva Mendes does a beautiful job with her bronde tone.
