Tassels: A. Macy Hall

Photo via A. Macy Hall  I'm not sure if you guys know this about me, but I'm willing to admit it freely: I love tassels. Stop it, your mind went there, not those kind of tassels. I love tassels on my neck, my wrists, my scarfs, and anywhere else appropriate. After a sweet like on Instagram I tapped on Amanda Macy Cheek Hall's Instagram to frankly stalk all her adorable photos, and with a name like that she's a gal after my own heart. Here is where I go on a tagent about names : I can't wait to be Molly McKerihan Dixon Grimm. I really don't want to give up my middle name of McKerihan. When I was little I thought it was so weird and cursed my parents for giving a name I couldn't spell until 5th grade, but now it holds a place close to my heart. If the future husband let's me I'd love to name our daughter McKerihan, I think it would be adorable. Back to tassels. On Amanda's Instagram she had the prettiest picture of a tassel neckl...

fall forecast: molly's most wanted

We have an incredibly mild summer here in Minnesota. It snowed over two feet on May 2nd for goodness sake; however, the temperatures are starting to rise and per usual it's right as I'm craving to slip into a new fall wardrobe. While I'm loving my maxi dresses and sandals, I can't wait until it dips below 75 to throw on a jean jacket and statement necklace. My Frye boots are begging my feet to step into them and my blazer and sassy jacket collection has been feeling desperately neglected. After spending my 'happy hour' pinning away, I found some items that I can't live without. Some of them will just have to wait considering a $1,700 leather jacket isn't in the budget for this fall. What are you looking forward to sporting this fall?

Life Lately. Insta.

May 1st 2013 - 16 inches of snow! Our last dinner in Vegas at d.o.c.g. In our hotel - I will only stay at the Cosmopolitan. Going back in December! Really considering these for wedding shoes - rehearsal dinner? Really considering them for anything....

no more baggage.

I put this on About Face's Facebook page and thought I would share it on my blog too. One of my favorite beauty blogs is maskCARA , she has the most helpful hints and is so informative! My favorite under eye concealers are: All products above are available at About Face . For inquries or questions message us on Facebook   or e-mail me at info@aboutfacerochester.com xx "Usually dark circles come with some form of puff. The problem comes when you cover just the dark circle under your eye. Aside from the risk of looking like you’ve been wearing tanning bed  goggles you have to deal with the concealer actually bringing out and drawing attention to your bags…but you don’t want the dark stuff to show either! What to do?! Let me suggest applying the concealer in a pie piece under your eye instead. This way you cover the darkness and create a little arrow direction the attention right to your eyes and evening out your cheek in the meantime. Tot...

{for the boys} easy.

While dressing myself is where I have the most fun, I love it when Adam asks me for advice on his wardrobe. Sometimes I give him a big fat "OH NO NO NO", but recently he has really impressed me with his fashion choices. On the left is an exact representation of this style outside of The Mayo Clinic {where he is suit and tie man, or in scrubs}. He recently joined Trunk Club  and I was so thrilled with the choices {his gorgeous} stylist picked for him! It was a great investment for him, especially for shirts that can be worn in regular rotation. The outfit on the right is also pretty close to what he would wear on date night, or for a nicer dinner; however, I don't think I could ever get him to put on those Cole Haans. I've seen them on guys around Rochester and I think they look so sleek! When helping your man get dressed remember to keep it simple, a nice watch, a pair of dark - clean cut jeans, a simple and trendy watch, and practical and fun shoes are all reall...

Beauty Buy: Kevyn Aucoin

I am an extreme control freak when it comes to my eyeliner. Too much is always a bad thing in my book. I just feel gothic, ya know? We brought Kevyn Aucoin into About Face a few weeks ago. I'm obsessed with the rich lip colors  (For Keeps is my color!), the creamy mascara , and the precision liquid eyeliner . If you've had trouble applying liquid liner in a straight line in the past, your dreams have come true. It's so easy to put on, even a newbie could rock a perfect cat eye with this product! I work in an industry with some of the meanest people who have ever walked the face of the earth, who live and die for the surface. But the way I see it, I have a responsibility to do the most I can do, the way I know how. Since I know how to apply makeup, that's what I do and use it as a platform. ---Kevyn Aucoin

What I'm Buying: Deepa Gurnani

Every morning when I wake up I know that I will get to look at beautiful things. A blessing and a curse because even with an amazing employee discount they still cost money, funny how that works. I don't talk too much about my job on here, many of you might know it's at a high-end beauty boutique and I do sales and marketing {aka the rainmaker}, but I also do the accessory buying. I absolutely love it. While searching for a line of affordable, but luxe headbands I came upon Deepa Gurnani. I have loved working with this small company and my clients adore the hand beaded headbands. They really make a statement. They can be worn so many ways - hair up, hair down, boho, preppy, but always glam! If you would like to play an order email me at info@aboutfacrochester.com for free shipping and a tax free sale!  xo  m

{unique} updates

I have several pieces from IKEA from my college days. I've held onto a dresser, large chair, and giant ottoman. The dresser has seen better days, and after graduation the fabrics on my furniture are past their warm welcome. After seeing a friend like this post on Facebook {thanks Chelsea} I had to share. My recent posts about "interior design" have thrown me into uncharted territory, but as we watch parts of our home come together. {FYI: I ignore the basement and 3rd for loft as part of our living space, and am concentrating on the living room and dining room, since we spend most of our time here.} I consider myself very in tune with trends, fashion, and all hip trends on the interwebs - this one - I missed. via I beg of you to read this article if you have IKEA furniture that is waiting for a new life. If you're like me spending $1,500 on a chair feels ostentatious at this point in my life.

Thank you so much to  Monica  for bringing me to life on paper! I never knew I could look so good!  Monica of Classy & Fabulous  is such an amazing artist and when she asked if I would like an illustration I almost screamed! I sent her a photo of me in one of my favorite outfits {leather skirt, classic blazer, and spike the punch necklace} and I received this in my email last night! I'm SO in love! I definitely plan on having her do a custom wedding sketch for me! How fun!?  Even better - her shop offers gift cards - such a fun and unique present to give to a fashionista friend or bride-to-be!  Please check out Monica's Etsy store for more of her beautiful art work:  Classy & Fabulous

I'll be frank. I've never really liked Joes Jeans.  Phew, weight off my chest. I'm one of those girls that is CHOOSY about jeans.  I never try them on in the store. I wait until I get home and then I get all judgmental on myself. My 7 For all Mankind skinnies have seen better days, so I ventured to Macy's in pursuit of a new pair of  skinny jeans to tickle my fancy. I have walked past the else display many a time and admired the crisp washes, soft touch, updated silhouettes and patterns {but I never bit the bullet}. Game changer: I caved and bought a pair. At $68 and with a great return policy I didn't have too much to lose. Lemmmeeee tell you! These jeans are amazing.  I didn't buy the darkest pair, because I didn't love the stretch in the fabric  but went with a medium wash. One word: flattering. I've never loved how Joe's fit me, I've always believed they are meant for a more mature woman's body. And I might be 26, but these J...

{whipped} the best in blushes.

"A super blendable, mousse-like blush for airbrushed-looking cheeks! Our exclusive, lasting formula with ultra-fine pigments even minimizes the appearance of imperfections for a flawlessly radiant glow. " One of the best parts of working in the beauty industry is getting to play with products that have just hit the market. This Saturday we hosted a Rise + Shine makeup class at About Face and showcased the new limited edition whipped blush by Smashbox. It feels like velvet and goes on the skin like a dream. If you were scared of cream blush before, check those old memories at the door, because this sits on your skin so beautifully and blends like nothing I've ever used before. Above is the Berry Bliss and I'm also a huge fan of the second color, Dusty Rose. I wore the Dusty Rose this weekend and felt like I had a pretty glow to my skin. Below is a {grainy} photo, but my cheeks are nice and rosey! Pick up the product at  About Face  or e-mail me if you have any q...

{nina's picks} SS13

I love Nina Garcia and Moda Operandi. I was, at first, baffled by this website. The team gives you trunk shows of designer wear straight from the runway. It curates the best of the best, meaning that my favorite runway shows, can come to life in my own closet {if only I had a disposable income...right?}. I love the Marc Jacobs dress above, so decadent! Check out the striped dress Nina picked here.  Those ODLR pumps leave me speechless. How amazing would they look with a tan? They are also AMAZING in nude !  image via

{jcp} my picks.

When I tell people I love a good bargain they either roll their eyes or scream "MEEEE TOOOO!" the latter is usually my favorite. Having your nose turned up and only purchasing brand names or full price items is so TWO years ago. Rhetorical question answered: yes I love the pricey piece too, but in my real  life I make sure to mix high and low {high meaning Tory Burch, BCBG,J.Crew and J Brand, low being TJ Maxx and Target}. While I do own some pieces that were insane to spend money on the multitude of my wardrobe is based on classic basics and frugal trendy pieces.  No snobbery here! So, when I started plugging JCP  {the brilliantly updated jc penny } into my conversations I got a lot of, "you must be joking Molly". This was about four months ago. I know what kind of customer I am, what niche market I fit into, and what it would take for a company to target me and get me into their stores. The new JCP had something that intrigued me. I don't know...

{rochester} the place to be!

It was an honor to be asked to appear in this video for  Downtown Rochester.  It was an amazing opportunity and a day I'll never forget! I was so nervous to put myself out into the world like this {it felt a little indulgent}, but the video really portrays the beauty, versatility, and historic components of this wonderful city. Blazer courtesy of Karen Kane ! Enjoy!
