Le Boyfriend is in the Physician Assistant Program at the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse. It's one of the top programs in the nation (if not the one with the most prepared graduates). I'm extremely proud of him and know this was a dream come true after four years of work in undergrad.
La Crosse is a great town with humble people. There is no showboating and it's fairly laid back. I've never lived in such a relaxed place. As most of us know college towns don't usually have that vibe. At least Madison and Tempe and Minneapolis don't. Which is why I was so surprised to hear of such a disgusting sexual assault case that occurred on campus in late September.
Note: I finished reading "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and Ad and I recently watched the movie. Both have depictions of sodomy (in the form of rape) which I find to be cruel and unusual punishment.
I read the police report on what this poor young man (T.J.H.) went through - and how his roommates and 'friends' said it was only to get even with him because he was throwing card at one of the assailants while he was trying to take an online quiz. Apparently poking each other in the butt is considered similar to assualting your friend with the handle of a lint roller. It's not humourous in the least, but is big news around here - because it is just so wildly weird to think that two college aged boys (18 and 19) would go out of their way to rape their roommate with an inanimate object.

Two University of Wisconsin-La Crosse freshmen are accused of sexually assaulting another male student with a lint roller in a residence hall room late last month.
Casey Gudis, 18, of Ladysmith, Wis., and Brayden Wienke, 19, of Clear Lake, Wis., each were charged Wednesday in La Crosse County Circuit Court with first-degree sexual assault, Wienke as party to the crime.
The charges carry a maximum penalty of 40 years in prison and 20 years on extended supervision.
Wienke is accused of pinning the victim to the floor of a Sanford Hall room about 2:30 p.m. Sept. 27 while Gudis sodomized the man with the lint roller's handle, according to the complaint. The three students knew each other before the incident.
The 18-year-old victim told authorities the incident caused "unbearable pain."
"He stated he yelled for people to take it out at least twice as people in the room laughed at him," according to the complaint, which states three other students witnessed the assault.
Wienke told university police he threatened to jam an object into the victim earlier that afternoon after the victim tossed playing cards at him while he was taking an online exam, the complaint stated.
Wienke told the victim "he had it coming and they were even now" after the assault, according to the complaint.
The student reported the assault to his father and university police. A sexual assault examination revealed several abrasions and other evidence consistent with the victim's claim, the complaint stated.
Wienke told police while everyone in the group would poke each other in the butt with objects, the victim had been picked on more because he didn't know the others as well.
The victim no longer is a UW-L student, Chancellor Joe Gow said Wednesday.
Gudis and Wienke are not allowed contact with campus without prior approval as a condition of their $5,000 signature bonds. They have not been granted permission to attend class or live in the residence hall, Gow said.
They have been placed on emergency suspension and the university intends to seek expulsion for non-academic misconduct.
The men return to court Thursday for a preliminary hearing.
